History

Borehamwood has a rich history, going all the way back to 1188. Initially, the town was considered a part of the Elstree parish until it was finally separated in 1909. Today, the area is governed by the Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council.

Borehamwood owes much of its present-day fame to the Elstree movie studios, which despite their namesake are not located in Elstree, but here. The studios, along with Borehamwood itself, played a significant part in the UK film and television industry. Today, Borehamwood is one of the central filming locations for BBC's popular TV show Eastenders and a simple stroll across the streets is all but guaranteed to result in a meeting with everyone's favourite cast members.

The town is also included in a large number of bus services, further facilitating quick and easy access. Finally, for trains, you’ve got the Elstree & Borehamwood railway station, connected to the Thameslink route.
